We frequently consume protein rich foods that preserve our
health in different ways. Protein contains major building
blocks known as amino acids, that are used by all living cells
in the human body.
We generally absorb amino acids from our daily intake of
food, particularly that which is rich in protein. The body
separates the amino acids into its component parts, and our
living cells use them, to create the specific protein each cell
requires to function efficiently.
Essential Amino Acids
There are two major types of amino acids, categorised as
essential and non essential amino acids. The human body cannot
produce the essential amino acids on its own, so it must be
extracted from high protein foods or supplements. The essential
amino acids, each of which has its own purpose, are composed of
phenylalaine, methionine, lysine, tryptophan, threonine,
leucine and isoleucine.

With proper nutrition our bodies can produce the non
essential amino acids, but these can also be added to our
intake as supplements. These non essential amino acids include
aspartic acid, tyrosine, glycine, taurine, histidine, cystine
proline, alanine, glutamic acid, and arginine.

Amino acids are considered vital to the body’s proper
functioning. Their uses include the repair of organs and
muscles, skin, hair, ligaments and glands. In addition amino
acids assist with the production of antibodies, to fight
attacks from viruses and bacteria. They also make
nucleoproteins such as DNA and RNA. Furthermore, amino acids
provide oxygen throughout the body, and help with muscle
activity. Going short of only one of the amino acids will
jeopardize your health.
Lots of people take amino acids for reasons other than
deficiency. They believe that taken as supplements, will boost
the body’s defensive capability. When choosing amino acids
remember there are two major forms. Numerous experts recommend
the L-form, for its likeness to that contained naturally in a
healthy diet.
